No Shame, No Stigma
By Adetoun Alli Adams MBACP (Accred). Publishing December 2026.
No Shame, No Stigma is a deeply personal and professionally grounded book exploring what happens when families remain silent about cancer and what becomes possible when those conversations are finally spoken aloud.
Written by accredited psychotherapist and oncology counsellor Adetoun Alli Adams, the book weaves together memoir, clinical insight, mental health advocacy, and emotional reflection to open conversations that many individuals and communities have never felt safe enough to have.
With nearly a decade of experience supporting adults through the emotional and psychological impact of cancer, grief, and life transition, Adetoun brings both professional expertise and lived understanding to every page. This is a book for anyone who has ever been taught, directly or indirectly, that some experiences should remain hidden or unspoken.
A personal experience that shaped a lifelong commitment to emotional honesty, cancer advocacy, and breaking generational silence.
The Story Behind the Book
No Shame, No Stigma began with a silence Adetoun could not fully understand. Her mother died from breast cancer and Adetoun did not know she was ill.
Within the communities she grew up in, cancer was rarely spoken about openly. Conversations surrounding illness, grief, emotional vulnerability, and mental health were often shaped by shame, fear, silence, or the pressure not to burden others.
That silence did not protect anyone. It simply left a daughter unprepared, emotionally isolated, and carrying questions that were never given space to be spoken aloud.
This book became Adetoun’s response to that silence, the book she needed when she was younger and could not find. It is written for individuals, families, women, and communities navigating illness, grief, emotional pain, and cultural stigma without the language, support, or permission to speak openly about what they are carrying.
